Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles (strategies) of the devil.
Here in Ephesians 6:11 God is not asking you to stand and defeat the enemy, and that’s because Jesus has already done that – Christ is your victory!
Colossians 2:15 says, And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
Romans 8:37 says, No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
The Kingdom Principle is this: We fight from victory, not for victory.
As Christians, the way we walk in this victory is by standing our ground. This is the message of Paul in Ephesians 6:10-14:
- v11 put on the full armor so you can take your stand…
- v13 so put on the full armor so you may be able to stand…
It goes on to say in v13-14:
And after you have done everything, stand. Stand firm then... Paul once again refers to the “armor of God”.
Can you see the correlation here?
Paul does not request you to stand against the devil by yourself or in your own strength. Every time he demands that you stand, it is in the full armor of God.
The armor of God represents Christ - who you are in Christ and what He has done for you.
- He is your belt of truth
- He is your breastplate of righteousness
- He is your shield of faith
- He is your helmet of salvation
- He is your gospel of peace
Jesus has already blessed you with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3) and when you understand all these things about Jesus and what He has done for you, that is what gives you victory over the devil – you don’t need to do anything but to just stand!
So when the devil tries to attack your faith; your righteousness; your peace; your blessing… just declare back to him:
“I am not trying to be blessed, I am already blessed; I am not trying to be righteous, I am already righteous; I am not trying to be a man/woman of faith; I am already a man/woman of faith in Christ Jesus!
When you understand what Christ has purchased for you on the cross, that’s how you stand and how you claim victory over the devil. Your knowledge of this disarms the devil just as Christ did when He triumphed over him, reigning victorious!
