Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
One of the Kingdom principles we see in the Scriptures is this:
Whatever God thinks, He speaks. Whatever He speaks, He creates.
Creativity always begins with a thought. Consider the items that surround you right now, maybe it's a chair you are sitting on, the clothes you are wearing, the design of a room – it all started as a thought and this is where “thinking” is so important, especially when you start to think of things that are not yet in existence!
Now, this is not only essential when it comes to reaching your dreams, but it’s essential when it comes to being transformed into the person God has called you to become.
In the Bible we see two patterns of thinking that relate to this concept of transformation:
1. In Romans 12:2 the Scriptures say“be transformed by the renewing of your mind”.
The word transformed in the original Greek text is Metamorphoo which is where we get our word metamorphosis from. Think of a hairy, little caterpillar crawling in slow motion along a tree branch – yet through metamorphosis, it is transformed into an amazing, colorful flying machine: a butterfly!
That’s exactly what happens to us when we come to Christ. The same way that caterpillar is being changed in its chrysalis into a butterfly, so we too are being changed “in Christ” (our chrysalis) into a being that carries His nature, His Spirit, His Will and His Purpose.
2. Ephesians 4:22-24 illustrates another pattern of thinking telling us what to “put on” and what to “put off”
Paul says to put off the “old nature” and to put on the “new nature”. One way to look at this is how we dress everyday… we don’t put new clothes on over the old clothes, do we? No, we put off the old then we put on the new. Spiritually and theologically, we put off the “old nature” and “put on” the new nature by receiving Christ. But practically and daily, we do this by submitting ourselves to His Word, so we are being transformed daily.
In reality, these two patterns of thinking are practiced simultaneously. Ephesians 4:23 in the Amplified Bible version puts it perfectly…
“And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude]”.
There are lots of things you can create in this world – but the greatest of them will be the new creation you are becoming in Christ, as you are constantly renewed in your mind!
Spiritually you are already this new creation, but it is through an ongoing renewal of your mind that it becomes your practical reality.
