Proverbs 23:7 “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”
The great American poet, Robert Frost wrote a famous poem The Road Not Taken. The final few lines say:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the road least traveled by
And it has made all the difference.
Roads represent your choices and decisions in life. Your decisions are determined by your mindsets and your thinking. Often, we have a tendency to go along with the crowd. We think like other people, we act like other people and we are influenced by other people. But God doesn’t want other people shaping your life. He wants to be the One who shapes your life!
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans not to harm you but to give you a hope and a future.” God knows what He is doing. That’s why He wants to be the One who influences and shapes your life.
God has clearly laid out in the Bible how He wants you to think, to speak and what to seek in life.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.
Proverbs 18:21 Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Matthew 6:33 Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be given unto you.
The Bible uses the analogy of sheep for the people of God. When sheep have a shepherd, they are led into green pastures and beside still, calm waters. However, sheep without a shepherd are scattered. They wander everywhere, into danger, trouble, and destruction.
The famous lines from the movie, Alice in Wonderland, is when Alice asks the Cheshire Cat for directions when she came to a fork in the road.
The cat responds, "Well that all depends on where you want to go.”
“I don’t really care” replies Alice.
And the cat rightly replies, “Well it doesn’t matter which road to take then.”
It’s important that we don’t live our life like Alice, “by chance”. The Bible is your roadmap and it will direct you towards God’s plans and purposes for your life. If you don’t choose where you are going and what you are doing then someone else will choose for you, and often, it’s the popular opinion of the crowd.
Come out from the crowd, choose God and choose life!
