Galatians 1:15 … God who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace.
Some people might think they are an accident because they were not “planned” by their parents. You might even have been born out of wedlock and you don’t even know who your biological parents are!
What you need to understand and believe, is regardless of the circumstances of your birth, God has called you from your mother’s womb. Whether someone is born in a palace or a pauper’s quarters, is irrelevant – it is the handiwork of God that creates a newborn child and it is by His grace, His doing, that new life is born into the world.
God’s ‘calling’ is unique for every individual.
The Apostle Paul knew that he was called from his mother’s womb. His sense of calling was misguided and his passion was misdirected at first toward persecuting the church. It wasn’t until he had an encounter with Jesus, that His calling was “corrected” and his passion was realigned towards “God’s purposes” (Acts 8:3; 9:1-6).
And so it is with all of us.
We are all called by God from our mother’s womb, but we all like Paul will possess misguided passions, intentions, and desires. It is not until we also have a personal encounter with Jesus that God can start making the “corrections” and the “realignment” towards His purposes.
Whenever a plane is bumped off course due to wind currents or even storms, the plane’s auto-pilot is making continual corrections to ensure the plane arrives at its final destination. Likewise, God (mostly through His Word and Spirit) will be making continual corrections day by day in your life to ensure you fulfill His purposes that you have been called by grace to fulfill.
At times you might even walk away from God’s intended course – you might have become offended, disillusioned or discouraged. Although you might feel angry at God and His church, God will always continue to be faithful toward you.
2 Timothy 2:13 says “If we are faithless, He remains faithful for He cannot disown Himself”.
Your calling by grace is not based on your abilities, talents or qualifications – it is based on God’s grace. God’s grace is the actual source of your abilities, talents and all the opportunities and blessings such as your education and qualifications. Everything you have and possess has come into your life because of the grace of God.
And since you have been called by this grace, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal His calling to you and submit yourself to Him through His Word. And like Paul you will carry that inner conviction of the Lord’s calling, fulfilling His purposes in your life.
