EVERY DAY, GET TO KNOW JESUS

Philippians 3:10 (NLT) I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead…

I’ve been pretty fortunate in my Christian life – I have had pastors who modeled how to ‘get to know Jesus’ every day.

My very first pastor (Col Stringer) would wake up early and go on a long morning walk praying and meditating the Word of God. He has become a well-known traveling minister teaching faith all over the world and is still going strong today.

My current pastor (Phil Pringle) also wakes up early every day, goes down to the beaches of Northern Sydney and prays until the sun rises over the ocean horizon. He leads a global movement of churches around the world today.

So it’s not hard to guess what I do every day – I wake up early to pray, meditate and receive God’s Word.

This is how Christianity works – it's called ‘follow the leader.’ Once you find a pastor, a leader who is walking with God, growing with God and you can see it – start following them by doing what they are doing!

Paul says in the Amplified version:

For my determined purpose is that I may know Christ – that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more strongly and more clearly…

Getting to know Jesus doesn’t just happen by chance. You have to schedule time with Jesus. It is something you do on purpose. And when you do, you will eventually see the progress. Growing with God is a progressive revelation.

But there is a trap to knowing and growing with Jesus –> It’s called BUSYNESS. It’s when we convince ourselves we are too busy to sit down, be still and spend some time with Jesus, every day.

The only reason we don’t is that we have not developed the habit. It’s so easy to do, but the things that are easy to do, are also easy not to do.

Psalm 46:10 says “Be still and know that I am God.”

In other words, do it intentionally. Be purposeful. Do not allow yourself to go through this life without growing in your relationship with Jesus.

He’s waiting for you to meet with Him today. Spend some time praying to Jesus today. Feed upon His Word – read it today, draw out key words that speak to you and meditate upon those words. Carry them into your day – they are life to your body and wisdom to your soul.
