HOLY SPIRIT REFRESHING

Isaiah 28:11-12 For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, to whom He said “This is the rest with which you may cause the weary to rest,” and, “this is the refreshing”…

To combat stress and worry, anxiety, and tension, people resort to many things such as tobacco, alcohol, sleeping pills or hard substances. These may mask the symptoms of restlessness temporarily, but the real issues will only deepen.

But whether the substances are hard or soft, the inevitable outcome is always worse – it's a lifestyle of addiction on top of the stress. Ultimately, it costs your health, money, and often results in broken relationships and families.

However, God has another way of dealing with these things. It is powerful, costs you nothing, and has no harmful side effects.

It is called the refreshing of the Holy Spirit. Specifically, Isaiah 28:11-12 is prophesying the gift of tongues that Jesus would give to the church.

There are several types of “tongues” in the Bible – some are gifts given to a few, but there is also the gift available to all believers, which is your personal prayer language. This is what Isaiah is prophesying in Isaiah 28:11-12.

Mary and I have counseled many people over the years who have been destroyed through addictions, but one of the first things we do is pray for them to be filled with the Holy Spirit and receive the gift of this heavenly prayer language – speaking in tongues.

That’s because it can do what no amount of medication or counseling can do – it causes a peace, a rest to rise up within you. And when you pray consistently every day in this heavenly language you are building an internal wall of peace that protects you against fear, worry, restlessness, wrong desires, and anxiety.

For the addict, praying in this tongue is compulsory. Addictions are cyclical and once the addict has a fix, there is a cyclical pattern that follows and it is only a matter of time for its claws to grip you once again. You are helpless on your own.

But this powerful prayer language will help build an inner wall of resistance and begin to transform the desires of your heart and soul. Strong addictive desires are dissolved over time and replaced by the desires for the Lord.

Maybe you are not an addict to substances but you might be to fear and trouble. Once again, praying regularly and consistently in your heavenly language will help you build that internal wall of resistance which dissolves away fears, worries, and desires of the flesh.

Philippians 4:6 says, Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Praying consistently in your heavenly language is the way to deal with all these anxieties and worries – it's how you cast the care of every burden this world can throw at you.
