UNWAVERING FAITH

Romans 4:20-22 He [Abraham] did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.


Some people think they have faith in Jesus and the bible, but their faith is only in the realm of their “senses”. This is not bible faith. It is a ‘shaky’ faith that seeks after reason and what sounds reasonable to the natural mind and senses.

But the type of faith Abraham possessed was heart faith based on the promises of the God of Hope. This is an “unwavering faith” that is “fully convinced” God is able to perform what he has promised! Real faith is a faith in the hope that God promises through His Word.

Thomas is an example of sense faith.

When he heard that Jesus was resurrected from the dead, he found it very difficult to believe that his Master was really alive. Jesus had promised this, but sense faith struggles to be convinced because it goes against natural laws and common sense. All his physical senses and human reasoning told him that Jesus died (John 20:24-29). His natural, human faith said “It is impossible for a dead man to come back to life. I’m not going to believe it unless I can see and feel Jesus for myself”!

What we all need to choose is the ‘unwavering faith’ of Abraham – “heart faith”. Abraham did not consider mere physical knowledge or natural facts. He put faith in what God said and elevated this above his natural physical senses, above his emotions, above his feelings and above the mindsets of the prevailing culture of the day.

Meditating on the promises found in God’s Word, that’s your hope and this is what builds a solid foundation of unwavering faith in your heart, where you become fully convinced in the ability of God to perform what He has promised.

Ephesians 3:20 says “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…”

God is able to do immeasurably more than your limited mind can imagine. That’s why you need to come to God with faith in the heart founded on hope (what God promises you in Scripture).

Although Abraham was old and childless, he refused to be convinced by what his senses and natural body was telling him. Rather, he stood on the promise (hope) of God.

God had said “For I have made you a father of many nations” (Romans 4:16-17). That was more than enough for him.

This is how to have unwavering faith that is fully convinced – base it on the hope of the promises in God’s word. Don’t just read your bible to fulfil a ‘daily reading plan’ – go to the promises and hope of what God declares about you – this is what will build your faith!

It is a fully convinced faith that will move mountains; heal the sick; casts out demons and see all the promises of God coming to pass in your life.
