DECLARE GOD'S BLESSING

Numbers 6:24-26 “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

The scriptures are filled with the blessings of God that He rains down upon His children.

We see from the very beginning of time God blesses Adam and Eve. Noah too was favored by God. But then we come to Abraham and God unleashed the blessings of heaven!

In Genesis 12:2 God tells Abraham that He will make him a great nation and he will be blessed, he will be a great name and become a blessing. In Genesis 22, God declares that Abraham’s seed shall be blessed and they shall bless the world!

This is an amazing promise for you as a Believer because Galatians 3:29 says, “If you belong to Christ then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise”. What promise? The promise God made to Abraham way back then!

In the same way Isaac and Jacob received the blessing of Abraham so do you and I because we are in Christ. Galatians 4:28 says, “Now you brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise”.

How do we walk in this promise? What do we need to do to earn it or receive it? Nothing – just believe it and declare it over your life because you are Abraham’s descendant in Christ. It’s just a matter of believing and expecting it to flow into your life. It’s not about trying to make it happen or flow – this blessing flows through knowing and believing that blessing belongs to you.

I recall seeing this blessing flowing into my life always at the time I needed it most.

At university it flowed into my life in the form of a scholarship that funded me through my studies. But it kept flowing – my parents sent me monthly support and I also had a weekend job. Then when I came to the end of my university studies with about six months to go, a job came to me. Price Waterhouse was recruiting and they contacted the university and the Dean of Studies recommended me – he could have chosen anybody but he chose me because it was the favor of God doing the choosing!

And it has continued to flow all the way up to now and will continue to flow into my old age and upon my family and grandchildren!

It's not about stressing or striving and worrying: “will there be enough in the bank to pay for this or that” – it's about knowing that the blessing of Abraham is upon me because I am in Christ and therefore I am blessed.

God told Abraham, he would be blessed to be a blessing. (Genesis 12:2) That reveals the purpose behind blessings. So you can also become a blessing. This means you can not just enjoy provision but you can become a source of provision to your family and your church.

Start there with your family and your spiritual family - your church.

See the church as God’s treasured vehicle to bring blessing upon humanity. Resource the church through the blessing you have received and fulfill God’s covenant with Abraham that was established through the world by Christ – to spread His gospel of grace throughout the world.
