In Hebrews 12:1-2, we are told ‘…and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…’
Hebrews 12 is the key when it comes to faith – it’s simply looking to Jesus. Grace is a person, it’s Jesus and when you see God’s grace, that’s when He sees your faith. You don’t have to struggle and strive to have great faith. All you have to do is look to Jesus and see how willing and ready He is to bless you!
But Hebrews 3 is the reason why people do not persevere, or why they drop out of the race – it’s because of a heart of unbelief.
What causes this “heart of unbelief”? It’s when you think faith is dependent upon you. But it’s not dependent on you. Faith comes by seeing the goodness and grace of God. Jesus is our miracle worker. All we need to do is look to Him. Behold Him and see how willing, how ready and able He is to heal us, provide for us, deliver us and do whatever miracle you need Him to do.
Faith is not about you or what you are able to do – it's simply seeing how ready, willing and able Jesus is to do it for you. Just keep looking to His grace.
Every time you read the bible, read it to see the goodness and grace of God – read about what Jesus did. He heals; provides; delivers; restores; protects. He does it all!
Hebrews 3:13 says “exhort one another daily”.
Exhort one another about what? About the goodness and grace of God!
When you see or hear a husband or wife, a fellow brother or sister discouraged, don’t go to that place with them and have a pity party! This doesn’t help, it will only establish a foundation of unbelief in their heart.
Point them to the goodness and grace about Jesus. This is called being established in grace. Hebrews 13:9 says it is good that the heart be established by grace. That’s because when you see God’s grace, He will see your faith.
So encourage one another to keep looking to Jesus.
A mistake many believers can make is only looking to the goodness and grace of God when good things are actually happening. But this is not the life of “faith”, this is called the life of “feelings”.
Here is the truth – every believer, I repeat, every believer goes through trials and difficulties and every believer has to learn to look to Jesus and see His grace even when they are going through the darkest valley. But just like King David said,
“The Lord is my shepherd… even when I go through the valley or darkness, I will fear no evil for you are with me”!
