Romans 5:17 For if by one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
Jesus didn’t go to the cross just to give you eternal life but to also provide you with an abundant life so you can reign as a king and priest.
John 10:10 …I [Jesus] have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.
The word “Life” here is the Greek word Zoe or Sozo and it carries the following meanings:
A prosperous, bountiful, blessed favorable life…
Nourishment, vigorous, lively, robust, healthy and able to expend considerable energy…
Possessions, property, what one lives off in their daily life…
Life for evermore…
It is a word associated with Springtime. Can you see what God is saying to you here? The abundant life is for the here and now! And God supplies you with abundant grace (Romans 5:17) so you can live an abundant life!
So if you are a businessman, that means God’s will for your life is that your business will thrive and prosper! If you are a stay-at-home mum and you are looking after children, God’s will is that you are graced by God to raise up children who are blessed, anointed, protected and growing in God’s wisdom and favor. If you are a student, it means God supplies His grace to enable you to excel and to be effective in your studies. It means God’s favor is there to help you at school! If you are seeking a new job it means God is not just about providing you with an income, but He wants to provide you with influence and purpose in what you do.
Reigning in life means reigning over sin. Reigning over darkness. Reigning over depression, over curses, over sickness, over lack, in fact, it is reigning over everything the devil tries to enslave humanity with. You can reign over the devil and his devices because Christ is victorious over the devil and you carry Jesus’ same position in this life.
1 John 4:17 …as He [Jesus] is so are we in this world.
How do we reign in this life? It’s not being dependent upon your family background or where you were born. It’s not being dependent on your level of education or what school you went to. It’s not being dependent on your remuneration or where you work, or what you look like and how talented you are.
Today’s verse shows you how to reign…
“…much more will those who receive abundant grace and the gift of righteousness reign in this life through the One, Jesus Christ”.
Jesus is your qualification to reigning in this life. This is the good news. It is not dependent on your successes or abilities, it is only dependent on One - Jesus!
